Dear volunteers,

We would like to express our gratitude for your contribution to the successful conduct of the greatest and most outstanding FINA World Championships of all times hosted by Budapest and Balatonfüred.

Top athletes, water polo players, divers, synchronised swimmers and high divers from across the world were fighting for world titles during the 17-day period of the FINA World Championships, and their achievements were followed by 4.8 billion people on the spot and via TV broadcasting.

You were more than 2500 in the volunteers’ team of Budapest2017 from a total of 560 villages and towns all over the country. More than 170 of you joined us from 32 foreign countries of all continents of the globe. Many of you, who applied to contribute to conducting the sporting event successfully, already have families, others are retired and several members of the team are still doing their studies

You were volunteers of very different ages and qualifications representing younger as well as elder generations. Teachers, actors, bio-engineers, metalworkers, piano teachers, air traffic controllers, sculptors, lawyers, engineers, economists, doctors, vets – to mention but a few professions of the volunteers involved in our programme.

Thank you very much for applying for our volunteer programme, attending our trainings and doing your shifts full-heartedly. You all devoted your free time and days off to this amazing event.

Everyone could draw strength from the positive feedback by satisfied visitors, athletes and organisers even in the very last days.  You did your shifts smiling at all times, in the meantime great friendships were made and when the competition was over, everyone left with satisfaction.

Thank you for joining us, helping us and doing your very best in all areas.

FINA President, Dr. Julio C. Maglione thanked the organisers and all volunteers for their relentless efforts saying: „The support, enthusiasm and excellent work of you all provided for making this event the greatest World Championships in the history of FINA. Congratulations!”

As an expression of gratitude for your tremendous work and efforts please find the following open letter by Prof. Dr. h. c. Lajos Mocsai, the rector of the University of Physical Education, HERE.

If it had not been for your help, it would not have been possible to host the event.

We hope you returned home after the World Championships filled with unforgettable memories you will always be happy to reminisce about and share with family and friends.

With sincere gratitude and respect:
