Flash Quotes: Women's 1m Springboard
Surprisingly, there was no Chinese medallist in the top three of Women's 1m Springboard final. Maddison Keeney (AUS) claimed the gold medal ahead of Nadezhda Bazhina (RUS) and Elena Bertocchi (ITA).
Maddison Keeney (AUS): "First of all, I want to thank my coach for enabling me to dive on this level, and to execute such difficult dives. I am so happy I could make it. I worked very hard and now it paid off. In 2015 I failed to perform my last dive. I simply jumped into the water. I needed to get over that negative experience and pull myself together. There was no need to blame myself and think about the past beacuse I have trained hard all my life and I always knew it would eventually pay off. Before the press conference I had a word with my parents because I wanted them to know the result first. They supported me all throughout my career, they did their best to support me so I wanted to thank them."
Nadezhda Bazhina (RUS): "From the beginning to the end I was fully focused and I concentrated on my dives. I am satisfied with the result and I believe my former experiences helped a lot. Actually I could ignore the outside world so much that I have just noticed the Chinese girl did not win a medal in this final."
Elena Bertocchi (ITA): "I’m very happy about this bronze medal, I didn’t expect to get on the podium. Last year at the European Championships I was second behind my compatriot, Tania Cagnotto. She is my idol, it makes me particularly proud that I can follow in her steps, although it is already an honour to hear our names mentioned together. In fact I’m a 3m diver, and in the future I would like to achieve the same level in 3m as I am capable of currently in 1m."
