At Wednesday night, the Hungarian Olympic Winners Club grew with three new members. Besides Katinka Hosszú, Emese Szász fencing and Tamara Csipes as a part of the K-4 team, have been initiated.
On this event, Pál Schmitt, member of the National Olympic Committee and Zsolt Borkai, president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee and more than fifty olympic medalists also participated.
Attila Czene, olympic gold medalist in Atlanta, greeted Katinka:
„I envy the phenomenon that you are. With your coach-husband, Shane, you imagined a new way and you went through it with success"
After that, the "Ironlady" came on to the stage:
„I would like to say thank you for to be part of this club, I still can not believe that I am a gold medalist. A lot of people helped on my way, which was very long, but it worth it. My grandpa taught me to swim, and my family was always with me. I thank to Hungary and especially to the Hungarian Olympic Committee for the lot of support I got. It is not easy that Shane is my coach, during this four years, we learned a lot from each other, above all, that we should be brutally honest. I also need to be honest with myself for how much I can take. After Rio, I felt that 2020 is really far in time, but we already started to talk and prepare.
The gold medalist ladies from Rio have been officially inaugurated to the Hungarian Olympic Winners Club. As a final act, the three "rookies" put the ribbon of Rio to a hungarian national flag.
