M10 Group B

France-Australia 10-11 (5-4, 1-2, 1-3, 3-2)

Hrestak Hrvoje, head coach (FRA):

„We failed to stay focued all throughout the game, Australians were better prepared for this match physically. In my view this was the main reason we lost. We were trying to keep up with them but we did not really manage to do so because we were totally discouraged by the score. Now there is nothing at stake in the next match so we will play just for fun.”

Ugo Crousillat (FRA):

„ We had the same problem here in the third quarter as against Italy, we didn’t concentrate enough and we let Australia take the lead. I think we lost it in beginning really, because we started off quite weak and we missed two or three goals there. We were fighting hard at the end, it was too late though. It will be hard against Hungary, one of the best teams in the world and they play at home, still we will do our best to have an exciting match. What is more, currently I play in Szolnok, and this has been my best season ever.”

Elvis Fatovic, head coach (AUS):

„ You could see high anxiety on both sides, there were ups and downs for both teams. We made some naive mistakes in the last quarter, without those we could have finished this game much earlier, but that’s quite a good lesson and experience for us, because most of our players had never played in a major tournament before. The next one against Italy will definitely be tough, that’s one of the favourites, so they are much more experienced. I guess we can take advantage of the fact that there will be no pressure on us. Still we will try to focus on our defense.”

Aaron Younger (AUS):

I think we played well, in fact we won the game. We have to focus more on defense, because ten goals is too much to get, this is something we must improve next time. Against Italy it will be a tough game, but we have a really good team. We need to focus on defense and we’ll see.

M11 Group C

South-Africa–Greece 2-18 (0-5, 2-3, 0-5, 0-5)

Etienne le Roux (RSA):

„Greece was more skilled than us. But it was a good game. Spain is going to be a hard match up for us, they are a strong team, too. All the pools are amazing and I really like Budapest.”

Theodorus Vlachos, head coach (GRE)

„We don’t have a lot to say after this match, because we are a stronger team than South Africa. We were expecting to win, and I wanted my players to have energy to make a good game, defense and attack, so I’m satisfied. Now we will play against the best team in the world, so it will be very difficult for us. But we will try to find a solution to push them, to make a good match and to take something from this game.”

Konstantinos Genidounias (GRE):

„This was an easy game, and now we continue against Serbia. It is a very important match, because this will decide who is going to be the first in the group. We’re going to give all we got, I’m sure Serbia will come ready to play, so it’s going to be an interesting game.”

M12 Group C

Spain-Serbia 5-11 (1-3, 0-2, 2-3, 2-3)

David Martin, head coach (ESP):

„At the moment, the reality is that Serbia is the best team of the championship. The Spanish team is still young  so we have to work really hard to fill the distance between them and us in the next years. The next match must go well for us if we want to pass to the next round. But everything depends on  how strong mentally the team is going to be.”

Albert Espanol Lifante (ESP):

„It was a difficult match and a defeat, because we played against the best team in the world, so it was hard to play a good match. And now we have to win against South Africa to continue with the championship.”

Branislav Mitrovic (SRB)

"We were completely satisfied with the results, this match was extremely important for us. We started more nervous than we had had to, but rapidly caught on, and keep up until the end of the game. I hope, with this match we can keep pace with the tempo of the championship and we’ll get better each and every day."

Dusan Mandic (SRB):

"We defenced well and concentrated, and that gave us the required safety for our offense. Our play was calm without any unnecessary euphoria, as we had wanted. Although, the result shows the match wasn’t close, but physically it did fatigue us, principally, because of our defence. Now, we rest a little bit, then prepare against the Greeks, who - to my mind – we are going to have a more difficult match with."

M13 Group D

Russia-Croatia 8-10 (3-1, 3-3, 1-4, 1-2)

Sergey Evstigneev, head coach (RUS):

„The boys played well, they were fighting good, but unfortunately in the end Croatia won the match. I’m proud of the boys, they gave all their powers. In the next match we will play against America and of course we will go for the win.”

Dimitri Kholod (RUS):

„It was a tough game. Croatia is the second best team in the world, so, even though we were well prepared, it was tough. We somehow slowed down in the third periode. I think that we aren’t experienced enough for this kind of competitions, but at least we gave our best.”

Sandro Sukno (CRO):

"We have to play much better, than we did today. Our start wasn’t weak deliberately, this championship goes that way, there are no easy opponents, therefore we have to prepare better for the next days. Eventually, we won, that’s the main point and to reach the first place in the group. Our next opponent is Japan and they have a very uneasy game, and play completely differently than the others, so the case requires us to train seriously. In connenction with the organization of the championship we are really satisfied, moreover, Budapest is the capital city of water polo, they have outstanding results. I hope it remains the same until the end of the championship, and with our victories we’ll get closer to the medals."

Ivica Tucak, head coach (CRO):

"It was a very hard match, we stood up with great efforts from the 3-goal-drawback and renewed our concentration. We didn’t let the referees or any other circumstances to disturb us. We won a specifically hard game, and that is the point. Nobody expected that every match will be easy – what wouldn’t be good either. That was a great lesson for us, we have to analyse our mistakes, but the most important thing, that practically the qualification is for sure."

M14 Group D

United States-Japan 7-15 (2-1, 2-5, 2-4, 1-5)

Dejan Udovicic, head coach (USA)

„We played very badly. All the technical mistakes that we made in the game against Croatia- we made them again.”

Alex Roelse (USA)

„We took a big loss, unfortunately, we weren’t able to play the way we would like to play. We had certain tasks for this game, and we just weren’t able to complete the things that we were aiming for. I definitely don’t think that this is the true representation of what we can do. We will learn from the mistakes that we did today and really apply them, and come out with the right fire and attitude towards this next game.”

Yoji Omoto, head coach (JPN)

„I’m really happy with the win, the American team is our role model, because we play against them and the Australians a lot on Asia-cups. This was our first win againts them and we are really happy about it. The key to win was that we altered our tactics and made life hard for them with our zones. The next game is againts Croatia, they are really good with good left handed shooters. They are superior phisically.”

Seiya Adachi (JPN)

„The team meeting after last game was really hard and we wanted to make it tough against USA, and we could. I think I played really good, I wanted to do my best, because the game againts Russia didn’t go so well.”

M15 Group A

Canada-Kazakhstan 9-10 (2-2, 3-3, 3-2, 1-3)

Nemanja Knezevie, head coach (KAZ):

„It’s a big win for the team. Our first game was with Brazil and their goalkeeper was really great so they managed to defeat us. Today we won and it’s very important. We have to win against Montenegro too in order to get to the final eight. Today was a great game. I would like to congratulate my team.”

Alexey Shmider (KAZ):

„ We feel very good. We wanted to win this match and to do our best. Now we have one day until the next mach against Montenegro, so we will try to be well prepaired and show our best.”

Giuseppe Porzio, head coach (CAN):

„We made too many mistakes. We often left the oponents against our goalkeeper alone. We have a very young squad, so we still have to work very hard to get a good result.  We had a chance to equalize the match, but unfortunately, we didn’t take it. Improvement at this level takes time.”

Matt Halaijan (CAN):

„We fought very hard. We focused on the attacks, but we were bad at the defense, though, so we’ll definitely fix those mistakes for our next game.”

M9 B csoport

Hungary-Italy 9-9 (4-4, 2-1, 1-3, 2-1)

Vincenzo Renzuto Iodice (ITA)

„It was a tough game, both teams played phisically. There were a lot of exclusions. The key of the match was the powerplay. We have a very strong group, we think we can reach a good result in this championship. We are improving match after match.”

Alessandro Campagna, head coach (ITA)

„The power of our group is skills and will of improvement. Even if we are in a difficult situation during the match we don’t lose the hope to win it. Today I liked especially how my guys managed to change the result in the fourth period. We could win the match at the end, but we were unlucky.”

Märcz Tamás, head coach (HUN):

„It’s hard to summarize this game, it was a tough one. I knew this would be decided at the very end. We had to equalize, we came back, so I can say the result is fair. I didn’t think the officiating was balanced. The players are prepered for this and we have to think about ourselves and our own play. I trust my players, our game, our calmness. We have a chance against everybody. We lost Harai in the game which made life really difficult, we have to fix this. It was a lot harder this way, the others took on a lot of heat to achieve this result. So overall I’m satisfied.”

Márton Vámos (HUN):

„We can be satisfied after we saved this game. We wanted to win, we are better than this Italian team. Unfortunately the first place of the group is out of our hands now. We are waiting for the final score of the Australia-Italy match. We have to regenerate, we are preparing for our next tasks.”

Viktor Nagy (HUN):

„It was a crazy game, we anticipated this, although I didn’t think that the officiating would be this way. I’m really happy that we had strength, we faced great pressure and this means a lot. We cannot think about how annoyed we are, this doesn’t build anything. When we step out of the Hajós Complex, we have to forget the bad stuff és concentrate on the good ones.”

Norbert Hosnyánszky (HUN):

„The game was chaotic and we didn’t play really well. The final score is quite fair. We could feel that the Italian players were tired and so were we. Maybe if the first quarter was different, the whole game would have been different, but we cannot be entirely dissatisfied.”

M16 Group A

Brazil–Montenegro 5-14 (0-4, 2-3, 2-4, 1-3)

Vladimir Gojkovic, head coach (MNE)

„We won deservedly without fluctuations, not like against Canada. We were able to defend our lead thanks to out experience. Everything worked great, we have to proceed this play and improve from game to game. We are in for contentiont for first place again, which leads to the quarterfinals, that’s our goal.”

Aleksandar Radovic (MNE)

„After last game’s stumble against Canada we practiced with a strong defense and calm attacks. Brazil has a great, experienced keeper, so we had to take away his confidence. We did and we defensed extremely well.”

Gustavo Coutinho (BRA)

„It was a hard game and they have more experience than us. They had to win this game to advance, so they played a lot harder, stronger. We have to concentrare on the game againts Canada.”
