Water polo: The Chinese are dreaming of the repeat of the Shanghai miracle

Apr 11, 2017, 9:22 AM
The Chinese women’s water polo team has improved a lot in recent years. The women’s national team started its international career in the mid 2000’s, and after some poor results they finished in 5th place at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Their best result is so far the silver medal at the 2011 FINA World Championships, and they hope they can repeat that success in Budapest in 2017.

Dávid Verrasztó: „I wish to swim my best”

Apr 10, 2017, 9:23 AM
One of the most interesting and lovable Hungarian swimmers. He is very proud of his inherited family name; however he does not feel any burden deriving from it. He is a world class swimmer of the 400m medley considered as an event of a huge tradition in Hungary. Budapest has always proved to be a good omen for him, he won his first junior gold medal here, also. Instead of talking he prefers to show his talents in the water, his achievements command respect. His father shares this view, although he never admits it he always watches his son and daughter swimming with misty eyes. Dávid Verrasztó kicked off 2017 with an excellent time and wishes to surpass it this summer.

The 28-year-old athlete’s ambition is to compete at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, and the 17th FINA World Championships could be a very important step towards that.

Taking a look at the overall medal table of world championships we may conclude that in the recent past the Croatian national team has been the most prolific one. Since 2007 they have won world championship medals each year, however, only one of the 5 medals was gold. Now they will enter the championships in Hajós Alfréd Swimming Complex with a relatively fresh squad to try and exceed their achievements in Kazan. They will definitely need to do their best during the 17th FINA World Championships.
