The Central Bank of Hungary issues a commemorative 50 HUF coin honouring the 17th FINA World Championships. There will be 2 million pieces of the unique coin issued among which 12 000 coins would come as gift-wrapped first strike coins (brilliant uncirculated) whereas 7000 pieces would be proof coins in the 2017 set. The coin has been presented by the Central Bank of Hungary and Bp2017 LLC. (in charge of organising and conducting the World Championships) at a press conference on Wednesday.

The reverse side of coins to be issued are identical to that of the currently used 50 HUF coin while the obverse side will be decorated with the logo of the 17th FINA World Championships instead of the saker falcon.

The coin has been presented at a press conference exactly a month ahead of the opening ceremony of the World Championships and it was attended by Tünde Szabó, Minister of State for Sport, Tibor Pataki, Head of Directorate Cash Logistics, Éva Szántó, Executive Director at Bp2017 LLC., Sándor Balogh, Director of Finance at Bp2017 LLC. and Andrea Gyarmati, Olympic silver and bronze medallist, World Championships bronze medallist and European champion swimmer, one of the 17th FINA World Championships ambassadors.

The obverse side of the coin was designed by István Kósa. Concerning its technical parameters, the coin is identical to the 50 HUF coin in use: alloy of copper (75%) and nickel (25%), weighs 7.70 grams, diameter is 27.4 mm, flange is 1.8 mm, smooth side.

The general public may encounter the special coin in the cash flow later on. It has not yet been launched, collectors can find the brilliant uncirculated coins in the coin shop of Hungarian Mint Ltd. at 7 Báthory street Budapest (district V.) as well as in the retail cashier’s office of the Central Bank located at 1 Kiss Ernő street Budapest (district V.) by money change for three months after issuing.

Two million pieces of the commemorative strike of the 50 HUF coin will be issued. 12 000 gift-wrapped first strike coins (brilliant uncirculated) will be available for purchase from 14 June, the day of issuing, through the sales network of the Hungarian Mint Ltd., in the coin shop operated by the company and in the webshop available through the website of the company. (

7000 pieces of the new 50 HUF proof coins (of unique striking) will be distributed by the Hungarian Mint Ltd. together with the entire series of HUF coins for circulation during and following the 17th FINA World Championships.
