Natalia Tarasova, head coach of the national team has announced the roster of team Hungary entering the World Championships in Budapest.

Synchronised swimming has been an Olympic discipline since 1984. The first tournament took place in 1891 in Berlin and it was open for women, whereas men could first participate in a similar event a year later in London. Back then it was not called synchronised swimming but ornamental swimming or water ballet.

Hungarians and synchronised swimming

Hungarian duets have participated in the Olympics twice so far, in 2000 (Sydney) Zsuzsa Hámori and Petra Marschalkó, while in 2012 (London) Eszter Czékus and Szofi Kiss represented Hungary. In the history of World Championships Hungary was placed 16th thanks to the solo performance by Eszter Czékus Eszter, concerning duets Hungary is ranked 21st thanks to Eszter Czékus and Szofi Kiss. Preparations for the locally held World Championships by the Hungarian team are currently led by head coach Natalia Tarasova – former member of the Russian national synchronised swimmers’ team -  where the young team will enter all events except for the mixed duet.

Synchronised swimming duets will be hosted in a venue on the City Park Lake adjacent to UNESCO World Heritage site, Heroes Square. This fascinating venue offers an unforgettable and one-of-a-kind experience thanks to the extraordinary surroundings, classic buildings and Vajdahunyad Castle serving as the background of the tournament.
