The Hungarian national male water polo team got through to the final, the players expressed their happiness about the event taking place on Margaret Island, in the Hajós Alfréd Swimming Complex.

With a highly precise and concentrated game and with the excellence of several individual performances the Hungarian national team managed to beat Greece 7-5 in the semi-final of the World Championship.

The three time world champion (1973, 2003, 2013) Hungarian team will face off Croatia in the final, a team that beated Serbia 12-11. The match will take place surprisingly in the Hajós Alfréd Swimming Complex on Saturday at 20:30.

„I’m really happy that we can hold this press conference after another excellent victory. It’s always great to stand in front of the press like this, even if it’s really early now, we went to bed too late” – said Tamás Märcz, the head coach of the Hungarian national team. He spoke right after about the decision about the venue where the final will take place. The decision has been published Friday morning.

„It’s good news for us that the final will take place in the Hajós Alfréd Swimming Complex, we are really happy about it. The team wanted to play here. Now it’s like it’s supposed to be. – he said.

On the semi final against Greece:

„The Greek national team played a precise and really concentrated game, but we are stronger when it comes to these factors. They made us concentrate. It didn’t matter to us whether we would win with one or more goals, the only thing that mattered was victory. We succeeded! We were really happy, maybe a lot of people have been surprised by us getting through to the final. I sat down and talked with my players before the World Championship. I saw on their faces that nothing’s impossible. The team has improved a lot during this tournament, we proceeded match by match. We still have one to play.” – continued Tamás Märcz.

„Personally I’m really happy that we can stay here, in the Hajós. Margaret Island is the home of Hungarian water polo.” – said Adam Decker, adding that circumstances don’t matter as the ultimate goal of the team is victory.

„I wouldn’t have cried if we had been supposed to play at the other venue. I sat there at the Champions League final of Szolnok. It didn’t feel bad but the decisive majority of the team wanted to play on Margaret Island.” – said Norbert Hosnyánszky, presenting one of the most beautiful spinning goals of the tournament against Greece.

„Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. This time it did, the audience was happy, the team was happy, I was happy too, everybody’s happy. I don’t practice this too often as it hurts my shoulders. Sometimes I try. Now this happened at a particular match.” – added „Hosi”, who had something to say about the team’s upcoming opponents:

„My life’s complete without having to play against Serbia. It doesn’t matter whom we beat for the gold medal.”

„We’ll beat Croatia in the final” - said Balázs Hárai. „They are a strong team, when it comes to the centre post they are similar to the Greeks. Maybe they are better physically, something we’ll have to pay attention to and prepare for it. Like the others, I’m happy that we stay in the Hajós. To be honest, the pool of the Duna Arena is too deep. I shouldn’t say this but in the 50 m pool of the Hajós we can rest a bit while we’re defending. – joked the excellent centre player of the team. He mentioned the audience too:

„The atmosphere is fantastic in the Hajós. In addition, even those sitting at the upper seats are able to see everything that happens during the match. It didn’t even occur to me that Greece would be able to win the semi-final. I will take this attitude to the final.” – said Balázs Hárai.

The World Championship final will take place on Saturday at 20:30 in the Hajós Alfréd Swimming Complex.
