Brazil brought the youngest player of the 17th FINA World Championship. Mateus Stellet considers this tournament to be a great experience for him.
Brazil got beaten by Kazakhstan with the score of 9-5, so the team finished 12th in Thursday’s qualification match.
Interestingly, the opening match of the whole tournament was played by these two teams, one the Brazilian team managed to win, with the score of 6-2. It was followed by a 14-5 defeat against Montenegro, after a 6-6 tie against Canada to be followed by a defeat of 8-3 against Australia and a 9-7 defeat from Japan.
There was a boy born in 2000 at Thursday’s match. Mateus Stellet is the youngest player of the male tournament.

„Am I the youngest? It’s nice, didn’t know that. For me, it was a very good opportunity. I could prove my skills, because it is better for me and for everyone in this age to play among adults and not in your age group.” – said Mateus.
„Unfortunately we won’t take part in the Junior World Championships in Belgrade next month, because of financial problems. We don’t know what has happened at home, the clubs and the federation are at war” – added the whizzkid of the Brazilians, whom we asked about his favourites.
„It was my first World Championships with adults, it was very nice for me, a whole new world, it is not the same as with juniors. I really like the Greek players, because I am short and short players need much more techniques so I really like them. But I have no special teams, my special team is Brazil.” – added the youngest player of the tournament.
