Auckland hosts World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships. Knock out stage is coming with some players who have the chance to take part in 17th FINA World Championships in Budapest.
As the 13rd FINA Short Course World Championships ended in Windsor an other tournament has started, the last one which take place by the FINA before Budapest 2017.
World Women’s Youth Water Polo Championships has already started in Auckland (till 18 of December), New-Zealand, furthermore with test rules of FINA.
In smaller pool with smaller ball and only with 5 players in the water (and 11 for one game) – these are the main innovations. During the FINA Convention in Windsor members of Bureau decided that these rules could be obligatory for the whole water polo sport in the future. The final decision in connection with the improvements will be made in Budapest next year.
About the tournament: the group matches have already ended and it is a little suprise that the United States couldn’t achive the first place in her group, just the second, behind Greece. Their matches have ended with a draw (10-10). Remarkable fact that the head coach of the American team gave opportunity to Aria Fisher in this tournament who won Olympic gold medal in Rio.The youth talent scored four goals as a centre forward against Greece.
In Group C – which was named „death group” – the final ranking has been Netherland-Italy-Australia, all these three teams have the chance to win the world championships.
Hungary – managed by Olympic champion Tamas Farago – won Group D and most probably will play against Italy to get to the last four.
