China has dominated diving events at recent Olympics and World Championships, but they want more – says Katalin Haász, head coach and president of the technical committee of the Hungarian Diving Federation.

Chinese divers have won almost everything in recent big events, but there have been some exceptions: they won 10 gold medals out of the possible 13 at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan, and 7 out of 8 at the Rio Olympics. Katalin Haász is of the opinion that they are not completely satisfied with that.

”The situation is clear, they want to win everything in Budapest next year, and they will do what they can to achieve that. They have never managed to win all gold medals, in Rio for example the British and the American duo finished in first and second place in Synchronized 3 m springboard” – Katalin Haász said.

There are of course some other countries where diving is more and more successful, and their competitors can also shine in Budapest, so the crowd of the new Dagály Aquatics Arena will have the opportunity to watch some very exciting contests.

”The British divers have been competing very well since the London Olympics, in Rio they won their first gold medal in this sport, but the Russians, the Canadians, the Italians and even the Germans are also very good, while the Americans are one of the contenders for gold in the 10 m platform.”

Katalin Haász thinks diving is becoming more and more popular, so on the 9 days of the diving competitions Budapest will be in the centre of attention just like during the swimming events after that.

”Diving has great tradition in several countries of the world, particularly in Asia but also on other continents. Diving was the fourth most watched sport at the 2016 Olympic Games!”

Diving events will take place from 14 to 22 July 2017 in the Dagály Aquatics Arena, and tickets are already available HERE.
