Ana Marcela Cunha of Brazil won women's 25km event for the third time. She grabbed the world title in this event in 2011 and 2015, also. Cunha became the second woman to win three gold medals in this event, after Edith van Dijk (NED, 4) and she became the second woman to successfully defend her world title in this event, after Van Dijk's back-to-back gold medal wins in 2002-2003.
Dutch Sharon van Rouwendaal finished in second place to claim her second medal at the World Championships, after her silver medal in women's 10km event in 2015. Only Germany (G4-S6-B5) have collected more World Championships medals in women's 25km event than Netherlands (G5-S4-B1) have.
Arianna Bridi of Italy took bronze. Earlier this week, Bridi finished third in women's 10km, as well.
