Five-time Olympic and six-time world champion diver Chen Ruolin has announced her retirement. The 23-year-old Chinese athlete has been suffering from a neck injury for a while.

„Yes, I decided to retire, and I have never thought that I would be so relaxed on this special day. Thanks everyone for the support, to my family and to diving” – Chen posted on her official Sina Weibo site.

„I feel sorry about her decision, because she could still have a lot more to offer due to her age, skills and experience” – Chinese diving team manager Zhou Jihong commented in South China Morning Post.

Chen won gold medal in the individual 10-metre competition in the 2008 and in the 2012 Olympic Games, and added three in the 10-metre synchro platform in 2008, 2012 and 2016. The decision means that she won’t compete in the 2017 FINA World Championships in Hungary.
