·   The team event is the only diving event at the FINA World Championships which has not been won by China yet.

·   The team event was first staged at the World Championships in Kazan in 2015, when Rebecca Gallantree (GBR) and Thomas Daley (GBR) won for Great Britain, ahead of Yulia Prokopchuk (UKR) & Oleksandr Gorshkovozov (UKR) (second) and Chen Ruolin (CHN) and Xie Siyi (CHN) (third).

·   It was the second gold medal in diving for Great Britain at the FINA World Championships, as Daley had previously won men's 10m platform in 2009.

·   Matthieu Rosset (FRA) and Laura Marino (FRA) won the team event at the most recent European Championships in June 2017. coming into these world championships, France has never claimed a medal in any diving event at the World Championships.

·   The three European titles in the team event prior to the French victory in 2017 were won by Russian duo Nadezhda Bazhina (RUS) and Viktor Minibaev (RUS), who just missed out on medals in this event at the 2015 World Championships as they finished fourth.

·   The last Russian gold medal in diving at the FINA World Championships came in 2009, when Yulia Pakhalina (RUS) won women's 1m springboard.
